SCULPTURE COLLECTION

Monumental Public Sculptures — 100" and Larger

This collection represents the largest scale of Gregory Johnson's work: monumental stainless steel sculptures exceeding 100 inches, commissioned primarily for public and civic spaces. Among these is The Modern Peach, a 30-foot, 6-inch sculpture in the collection of the State of Georgia — one of the most visible examples of Johnson's public art practice, and a landmark-scale demonstration of what stainless steel sculpture can achieve at true architectural scale.

Other works in this collection include Modern Saxophone, part of the City Centre Alpharetta collection; Asclepius, installed at High Point Medical Center in Braselton, Georgia; and Ascending, in the collection of the Gainesville Parks and Recreation Foundation. Notes Floating Off the Podium extends Johnson's public art practice beyond Georgia to the City of Gillette, Wyoming, while Books Flying Off the Shelf is part of the Fulton County collection. Colonial Patriots Flag, held by Cherokee County near Woodstock, and Hovering Dragonfly — a powder-coated stainless steel and UV plexiglass piece exhibited at Suwanee Town Center — round out the collection, along with Nucleus.

Sculptures at this scale are engineered specifically for public exposure: structural loads, wind resistance, foundation engineering, and long-term weathering are all factored into fabrication from the earliest design stage. Many of these pieces are the result of formal public art commission processes, working with municipalities, county governments, medical institutions, and private developments to create a permanent, site-specific landmark.

For municipalities, developers, universities, or institutions considering a monumental public art commission, Johnson's existing portfolio — spanning courthouses, medical centers, parks, and town centers across multiple states — offers a reference point for scale, material longevity, and the kind of civic impact a large-scale stainless steel sculpture can have on a public space.
